The Cabinet approves the development policy of the local automotive industry

The Cabinet today approved the draft policy for the development of the automotive industry in the country, in view of the growing demand.

The Automotive Industry Development Policy 2021 was approved at the weekly Cabinet meeting held in the Cabinet Room of Jatiya Sangsad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“We have to develop the auto industry for our own sake, against a background of growing demand. We are thinking about the development of the auto industry to a certain extent, not remaining solely dependent on imports,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker said. The main objective of the policy is to develop the local industry by securing the automotive engineering skills and facilities necessary for the production of automobiles and spare parts, he said.

Khandker Anwarul said that another goal of the policy is to improve the possibilities for cooperation and joint investment between local auto industries and international brands so that famous brand products can be produced here at lower cost.

He quoted the Japanese ambassador in Dhaka as saying that a renowned Japanese company has shown interest in manufacturing its products in Bangladesh.
